Central Dekalb’s 7-Year old Red Sox team takes State Championship

 

They defeated the Red Sox from South Clayton, with a score of 6-5; the Cardinals from Hampton, 10-4; the Cardinals from Gresham Park, 9-3; and in the final game of the championship they defeated the Yankees from Morrow Lake City with a score of 11-5.

 

Head Coach Ty Jones states that “During the regular baseball season, my team really worked hard, and then during the championship games, they made me, their parents, and Central Dekalb Wade Park very proud.  They were focused, and they remembered and utilized the training they received during the regular season games.  We look forward to an even better season next year.”  The Red Sox had a challenging season at their home park, with a season record of 7 wins, 5 losses.  Robert Dawson, a parent, said “I was so proud of our boys; they played one amazing game after another.  We [the parents] were delighted with our championship win.”

 

The Red Sox celebrated their win with a pizza party at Cici’s Pizza at West Park Place on July 15, 2004.

 

Some of the Dekalb County Schools the  players attend include Wynbrooke, St. Timothy School, Marbut, Robert Shaw Elementary, Kingsley, Pine Ridge, and Shadow Rock.
